Stars and Stripers

For the past few years our American Legion Jeff Davis Post 18 has donated thousands of dollars and provided volunteers for the Stars and Stripers. A charity fishing event for disabled veterans and active-duty military with their family members, organized by Project Healing Waters. Project Healing Waters was founded in 2005 by Navy veteran Ed Nicholson of southern Maryland. Project Healing Waters was especially founded for wounded veterans and active duty personal recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center; after their return from Iraq and Afghanistan. The past few years the event has been held at the Kent island Yacht club in Queen Anne’s Co. Maryland. Jeff Davis Post 18 is proud to be a part of the event every year.**

The only thing left to do is remind us all it’s about the fishermen-the vets. I would say that vets are natural born story tellers. When you add some characteristics of fishermen and vets all in one, who knows what stories you might be told. I do know one thing. The vets/fishermen will love telling the stories to you; especially, over a nice cold libation. However, be careful, the distance between the space of their hands will increase as the beer flows, turning the fish into whales. That’s what it’s all about, the vets. Veterans are unappreciated in this country. It is everyone’s job to step up and follow the lead of American Legion Jeff Davis Post 18 in their sponsorship part in Stars and Stripers.

May God bless our veterans, all our military forces and may God bless the United States of America.
